A new study has found that closing medical marijuana dispensaries does not reduce crime in neighborhoods, but rather, causes the exact opposite.
Once again, we have academia and science to prove our point: weed dispensaries make for good neighbors.
According to data, published in the Journal of Urban Economics, researchers found that closing MMJ dispensaries was associated with an increase in larceny, property crimes, car break-ins and other street crime in the surrounding areas. Authorities have arrested three men they say carjacked a big-rig hauling half a ton of marijuana and led them to a pot-growing operation at a Pomona home.
Authorities say the whole thing may have been a drug deal gone wrong.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports the truck was stolen Friday in Pomona. A short time later, a police helicopter spotted people unloading the trailer and throwing large bags into the backyard of a home. Authorities say a man known as the “Godfather of Grass” has been arrested in Canada after eight years on the run.
The U.S. Marshals Service says authorities sought John Robert “Johnny” Boone after they seized 2,400 marijuana plants on his Kentucky farm.
